The Disappearance of Brandon Helms - Part 2

On the surface, many signs point to the theory that 42-year-old Brandon Helms vanished after taking his own life. However, his family and some of the lead investigators who have been in charge of the case say there are multiple factors that point to the possibility of foul play.

The fact that Brandon is alleged to have left the scene on foot, but his body has never been found despite extensive searches of the area, is one of the main reasons police remain suspicious.

“If you commit suicide, you can't bury yourself," said one family member. “It’s like a spaceship came and sucked him up.”

In part one, we cover the facts surrounding the day Brandon was reported missing. It was a cold and rainy Monday on December 14, 2015. He left behind his jacket, cigarettes and vehicle and may have walked away from the rural property on foot.

In part two, we cover some of the details of the investigation and things that his family and law enforcement investigators say are odd, like the allegedly changing story from his roommate Monty Kilcrease.

You can hear excertps of what Brandon's family and law enforcement say about the case from the in-depth interviews they gave Two Sleuths co-host and investigative journalist Katie Kaplan in 2022. You will also learn about some of the details of Brandon's alleged final communication from court records, as well as how Monty has reacted in the aftermath of his best friend's disappearance .

Katie interviewed the family and investigators in 2022.

Court records filed by Brandon's estranged wife, Misty Helms, show what she thought about his disappearance.

Brandon Lee Helms was last seen at a home on Teeterville Highway near the town of Lakeland in Lanier County, Georgia, on December 14, 2015 when he was 42-years-old. He was tall and slim and his family says he had dentures and may be recognized by his thin, receding hairline and a slight hitch in his gait due to a knee problem.
